John Isaac Marfleet [L.031B-032] on the Champion between Newark and Manchester on the 9th June 1824. |
The date on the advert is Tuesday, June 3rd (no year). This was correct for 1913 (when he was about 25 years of age) and also for 1924 (when he was about 36 years of age). It is probable that this photograph dates from 1913 and it is believed to be at Chadwell Heath terminus. (N.B. Thanks to Michael Champion (e-mail 10-06-2002) for the information that " the picture looks like it's taken from outside the White Horse pub in Chadwell Heath High Road (at the 'London' end of the pub). I'd often wondered about the cobbled roadway in front of the pub and what it was for - maybe your picture explains it's purpose. The building in the background looks strikingly like St. Chad's Church.") |
