This view of Christ Church, one of the MARFLEET postcards, was photographed by Herbert Sydney Marfleet.
In 1869 a temporary Church of wooden construction was built opposite and remained there
until the permanent Church was completed in 1875. The Rev. Christopher Bowen, a Totland
resident, gave the land on which the Church, the Vicarage and the School were built.
The porch, made from the timber of H.M.S. Thunderer, is a memorial to the Burnett family.
Since 1945 the Vicars of Totland have served as Honorary Chaplains to the keepers of the Needles Lighthouse.

Some Marfleet graves are to be found in the churchyard.
