MARFLEET Family History www.marfleet.co.uk including all variant spellings, e.g. MAREFLET, MARFLET, etc
I wonder if you may possibly be able to help me. I am currently researching the history of a company called B&S Massey, who used to be in Manchester. In the course of my research, I note that the company had ties to Marfleet & Weight of Australia. All I can tell you at the moment is that the two companies had a trading agreement dating back to around 1913, where Marfleet and Weight acted as agents for Masseys in Australia, but by the late 50s import duties were so prohibitive that the two companies formed a seperate company (B&S Massey (Australia) Ltd) to manufacture Massey equipment in Australia. I am greatly hampered in my research, because all the UK company records became the property of the parent company in 1981 (the parent company at this time was Davy International). Davy were acquired at least three times by other companies, most recently by the Kvaerner group. Unfortunately, no one seems to know where all the records ended up! Still, I refuse to be deterred! I'm sure that I will trace them eventually, and it's interesting that the ties between Masseys & Marfleet and Weight date back so far. If I uncover any information that is of use to you, I will of course pass it on.
