FREEDOM OF THE CITY

Mr. Richard Marfleet, who farms Walmsgate, received the Freedom of the City of London last week prior to becoming a member of the Worshipful Company of Bakers. The one always precedes the other.

Mr. Marfleet, whose mother, Mrs. Maple Bedford, recently returned from Australia where she was visiting her younger son Freddie who farms 7,000 acres there, continued a family connection with the Bakers 'by redemption'.

Thus Mr. Marfleet maintains a family connection with the Bakers who meet four times a year at their Hall in Harp Lane in the City.

Such a membership of a livery company is often the first step taken by future Lord Mayors. But Mr. Marfleet was eager to point out that he did not have aspirations in that direction.
