Mr. Marfleet, whose mother, Mrs. Maple Bedford, recently returned from Australia where she was visiting her younger son Freddie who farms 7,000 acres there, continued a family connection with the Bakers 'by redemption'.
Thus Mr. Marfleet maintains a family connection with the Bakers who meet four times a year at their Hall in Harp Lane in the City.
Such a membership of a livery company is often the first step taken by future Lord Mayors. But Mr. Marfleet was eager to point out that he did not have aspirations in that direction.
