COURT OF BANKRUPTCY.

COURT OF COMMISSIONERS, BASINGHALL-STREET, THURSDAY,
OCT.3.
(Before Mr. Commissioner MERIVALE.)
IN RE DAVID MARFLEET.

An audit of the accounts of this estate was held to-day.
It is probably in the recollection of the public that the bankrupt is the individual who, after carrying on for a short time a dashing business on the tremendous sacrifice principle as a draper in Whitechapel-road, had, a few months since, decamped to America with the proceeds of the sale of the greater portion of his stock thus disposed of. The propriety of first consulting with his creditors before undertaking such a distant trip under such circumstances never once occurred to him; he was, however, pursued, and eventually captured at New York, just in time to compel him to disgorge a considerable portion of the booty for the benefit of his creditors.
The stock and furniture on the premises in Whitechapel-road, with a few small debts, realized 800l, a sum of 1,800l was taken from his person at New York; but it is supposed that about 300l must be deducted from this amount for expenses. His debts already proved amount to about 4,000l, but what the exact dividend will be cannot now be known, as the expenses are not yet fully or correctly ascertained. The bankrupt has not arrived in this country, not is it expected he will favour it with a visit; but the funds taken from his person are in the safe keeping of the authorties at New York, and will be shortly transmitted to the official assignees.
