This rather ungracious picture of an old lady on the ramp at the Binbrook Depot, taken between 1964 and 1966, is a rare specimen. She was very camera-shy with her former operator, Devon General [Fleet No.DR647]. Indeed even recourse to the Devon General Society (to whom grateful thanks) has not resulted in any photographs of her sporting the maroon livery of that company being found. However, through the good offices of Mr Philip Platt, secretary to that society in 1994, it has been possible to obtain a photograph of a pair of vehicles of the same batch taken at the premises of Transport Passenger Equipment (dealer) of Macclesfield in 1964 awaiting sale. Mr. Platt also adds that platform doors were fitted in 1955 to MTT 646-651 to enable their use on country routes. Also of note is the flared lower panels which added to the attraction of these most elegant, solid and reliable buses.

It is also interesting to note that model makers Corgi released a model based on MTT 648 in 1993. Unfortunately, however, this was a very poor representation (being based on their Routemaster model and adapted with a Regent front end!) of this classic Weymann bodied AEC Regent III.

MTT 647 was sold in April 1966 to Peter Sheffield of Cleethorpes to be used for spares.
From the collection of Ron Maybray of the PSV Circle, 23rd November, 1993.
